2014 Commonwealth Games

The 20th Commonwealth Games in 2014 will be held in Glasgow, The Games will run over 11 days of competition from 24 July to 3 August 2014. It will be the largest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland. Over the last 10 years however Glasgow and Scotland have also staged World, Commonwealth, European or British events in all 17 sports proposed for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, including the World Badminton Championships in 1997. It will be the third time the Commonwealth Games have been held in Scotland, previously hosting in 1970 and 1986, both occasions in Edinburgh

Football

Football enthusiasts from all over Scotland, and further afield, make regular pilgrimages to watch the best of Scottish football at the immortalized grounds of Ibrox and Parkhead, homes to Glasgow Rangers FC (get the fixtures) and Glasgow Celtic FC (get the fixtures) respectively now two of Europe's leading sides

And for a more gentle, almost nostalgic experience – a visit to Firhill, the home of immortalized Partick Thistle FC -  The Great Glasgow Alternative

And don't forget a visit to the Scottish Football Museum , housed at recently totally modernized Hampden Park , home to the Scotland national team. Football trophies, memorabilia, and objects belonging to many of the greats of Scottish football are on display. Visitors are able to experience the atmosphere of the old Hampden changing room and press box, both of which have been preserved and reconstructed. There are also sound extracts, films and interactive touch screens

Hamilton Park Races
Hamilton Park is just off the M74 which means we're so close to and easy to get to from Glasgow , but once inside it seems like a different world. Manicured lawns and leafy paddocks. Dazzling silks and powerful thoroughbreds. Come racing in 2004 and see for yourself

Season highlights include the famous Saints & Sinners Charity Evening Meeting on Wednesday 9th June and Velvet Fair Friday Evening on 16th July. Kids are welcome anytime (and can come for free!), but our Family Day on Sunday 2nd May and Sunday Mail Family Night on Saturday 10th July are not to be missed. The season rounds off on Monday 27th September with our Festival Finale

Golf

In 2004 Royal Troon hosted the world famous Open Golf Championship. Glasgow 's proximity to the motorways allows you to be amongst some of the greatest links golf in Scotland along the Ayrshire coast in just over half an hour. And allows you to combine some outstanding golf with a great city experience

Massively underestimated – and living rather in the shadow of these great Ayrshire coast links - are some truly wonderful 18 hole heathland and parkland courses in and around the city itself. ‘Must plays' include Milngavie, Killerrmont, Haggs Castle , Westerwood near Cumbernauld, Whitecraigs, East Renfrewshire and Pollok - to name but just a few
